Bella went for her first hike back in early October up in Westchester County, about 30 minutes north of New York City. We found a nature preserve near Cherry Lake (or something like that), and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The leaves were just starting to change color, the mosquitoes were almost all gone, and the terrain was amazing. The preserve included a rock quarry, in which we were able to climb huge steps of rocks up to a cliff about 50 feet high (in background of top photo) that overlooked a pool/pond and many, many trees.
Bella loved the outing, though at first she wasn't sure what we were doing. But in no time she took the lead as "teacher," and followed the trail, looking for the specific color blazes on trees that marked our chosen trail. She saw a tiny frog, collected some nice leaves for pressing in a book later, and we got some good photos and made wonderful memories. It was her first, but by no means her last, hike!
