TRANSLATION PLEASE!

As I explain at the start of this video - which we submitted to the day on Earth project on youtube - Bella started saying this one morning repeatedly. Try as we might, we haven't been able to decipher it yet. And she's said it again several times over several days. Can anyone offer a translation?

UPDATE: Turns out this is some sort of quote or inspired pirate talk from Henry and the Buccaneer Bunnies, one of Bella's fave books of the Summer of 2010.

BELLA'S FIRST ART CRUSH?

Bella and her mommy went to the Whitney Music yesterday to see a performance ot Christian Marclay's "Screen Play" and check out the accompanying exhibition. While there, they also took in some of the museum's collection. Bella's favorite piece - the one she wanted to take home with her - was one that involved a lot of stuffed animals sewn onto a quilt hung on the wall. I recognized it as one of Mike Kelley's pieces from the late 1980s. It's called "More Love Hours Than Can Ever Be Repaid," a piece about the time required to make the handmade animals and afghans and such included on the work and how he found them all discarded in thrift shops. Something like that.

But what is also interesting about her liking Kelley's piece is that her new favorite album happens to be Sonic Youth's "Dirty," which features images from some of Kelley's other works from the same time period - namely handmade stuffed animals. I thought it quite a unique coincidence, and one worth noting here.

AUNT LINDSEY GRADUATED!

So Bella went with her mom and Nunya and Nana up to Boston a few weeks ago for the festivities. As you can see, both Lindsey (aka Lulu) and Bella were very excited before the ceremony began. Let's just say there was a lot of clapping for Lindsey when awards were announced.

Afterward, the celebrating continued with chocolate-covered strawberries that, well, pretty much tell their own story here...

COUPLA THINGS

1.
As most of us know, killer whales have a scientific name: orca. That's the name Bella knows them by. But she pronounces it "orkwa."

2.
Before the July Fourth fireworks, Nunya asked Bella if she knew what fireworks were. She said she did. So he asked her what they do. Bella said "fireworks make beautiful."

3.
Bella really enjoys having her animal friends play family these days. There is a family of small rubber and plastic frogs - baby frog, mommy frog, daddy frog, and grandpa frog (sorry grandmas!). And there is a fish family - Nemo, Dory and Daddy fish. NOw there is also a bear family - momma, daddy, and baby bear. She has lots of little play times with these characters, mostly involving one of the members of the family falling down or otherwise disappearing, and then being reunited with the rest of the crew.

4.
She was spotted in Central Park the other day and invited to come to a casting call for a catalog shoot for some toddler apparel. Just a head shot or two to see if she has the right stuff for their line. We went today and spent an hour in line and getting some shots done - which warrants its own story if you buy me a beer - and we'll hear back on Friday if they want her. Could international fame and glamor be right around the corner for Missy B?

JUNE PHOTOS

Bella as one of Batman's arch enemies? No, just in the midst of a cupcake frenzy at her new friend, Caleb's, birthday party at Hippo Park. It was mostly older kids who all knew each other from school, so there wasn't much interaction for Bells. The boy - whose elbow you can barely see in this shot - wasn't too keen on Bella sitting next to him and lashed out a bit with his hand at her. Crisis averted, but just yesterday she remembered that boy and told us "it's not OK to hit." Think she'll remember him next time their paths cross?

A funny shot of Bella in an outfit she picked out - rain boots and all - looking kinda tough, kinda silly.

A parting shot from Hippo Park, where Bella loves to play on the swings. She is particularly interested these days in facing the swing, running with it, and jumping up so her belly rests on the swings as it, well, swings. She laughs out loud often in the process as hopefully evidenced by this shot.
