Bella started camp at her school last week. It goes Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. with some days marked by trips to the hippo playground for sprinkler fun, soccer play, tumbling in the school's gym, etc. We thought it would be a good one-month tune up/adjustment period for her to prepare for the start of the school year in September. And we were also prepared to get phone calls asking us to come pick her up a few hours after we dropped her off, with her in hysterics/not enjoying the new faces/places/etc.
But that hasn't happened. There were some tears the first day, but she stuck it out. Typically, Bella is only upset when her mom drops her off and then leaves. When her dad takes her, she just says "'bye dad," and heads off to put her lunch box in the refrigerator. No matter who picks her up in the afternoon, there is the always-welcome run-and-hug greeting. She enjoys racing us or running with us along the sidewalk the entire two blocks to her school, and other folks in the neighborhood love seeing her do that, too. She has been napping regularly at camp, which is good, and is usually pretty tuckered out when bedtime comes around. She went to sleep at 8:30 tonight. Normally, bedtime has been 9 to 9:30 p.m.
Camp also means that her parents and grandparents get a bit of a break and are able to get errands/reading/cleaning done for a few hours. All this bodes well for the start of school.
