WHAT'S UP DOC?

Today was Bella's fifth trip to the doctor. She had a great report from the doctor, averaging 60th percentile for length, weight and head size. Everything else progressing as it should. Bella developed eczema two weeks ago, and we had to get a prescription for a steroid cream that took care of the dry patches of skin all over her body. Now we just have to cover her in moisturizer two or three times a day.

She also got three vaccine shots and one oral vaccine. Shots are not easy. Well, they are actually. The actual process takes only a minute, but it is not easy to watch your baby turn beet red and open her mouth to scream only to realize she is so freaked out she cannot make a sound. This silent scream lasts a few seconds and then the she finds her voice and lets fly screaming unlike anything I have ever heard. I've heard plenty of screaming, but none from this innocent, defenseless little person we love so much. A minutes of continued freak out is usually enough, and she is sound asleep by the time we pul out of the parking lot.

We opted to scatter our Bella's vaccine schedule out so she doesn't get five or six in one day. We did some research and felt that was too much for her little system at one time. Instead we go once a month for two or three shots. It seems to be working fine, and she hasn't had any adverse side effects to them yet.

The up side of a visit to the doctor and a traumatic encounter with needles in the thighs is that she is worn out and sleeps very well. She took two long naps today, and went to bed at 7:30 without waking up again (which she's been doing lately).

So anyway, that's the news from Decatur today.
